13 Days of Beer Camp Day Across America Day #1 – Sierra Nevada West Coast Double IPA

Beer Camp Day 1

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company – Beer Camp Across America West Coast Double IPA: In search of a full case, sadly all I was able to find at the time was this particular Sierra Nevada 24 oz bottle of Imperial IPA brewed in Chico, California at a strength of 8.5% abv with an undisclosed IBU that includes 5 varieties of hops. This bottle was dubbed a “Liquid Invitation to Beer Camp Across America” on their website – beer camp being a super cool travelling beer festival featuring over 700 breweries in seven cities. Honestly, this was one of the coolest and most unique things to come out of the craft beer scene, I wish I could have attended one, but alas so far it was only this bottle would be my experience. Little did I know however, that one day soon the rest of beer camp would makes its way into my refrigerator and finally to this blog. I hope you enjoy this series where I plan to post one beer camp collaboration beer review a day on this blog.

Aroma and Appearance: It pours a golden yellow colour with slow rising small bubbles and two fingers of lacy white foam. The aroma was honey sweet with orange citrus, floral and herbal hops and hay like malt.

Flavour: It starts with lots of caramel and some chewy bread malt, it has a clean fresh texture that leads to some spicy herds and tongue tingling pine that finishes with a grapefruit bitterness that satisfies.

Overall Impression: Complex flavour, nice malts and hops well done Sierra Nevada

Rating: I was super impressed with this one, it is awesome at 9/10.

Food Pairing: Double IPA’s deserve meat pairings, a lightly peppered steak on the camping grill is all you need here.
