Vancouver Island Brewery – Hermann’s Dark Lager: This local craft beer is a Bavarian Dark Lager that is brewed in Victoria, BC at a strength of 5.5% alcohol level and was poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass at home.
Aroma and Appearance: It has a dark brown almost amber look to it, pouring with a few fingers of foam and has tiny slow rising bubbles around the glass. Its aroma consists of grassy lemon and mildly roasted coffee and chocolate.
Flavour: Earthy and grassy malt, toasted coffee beans and smokey chocolate with a clean and crisp finish.
Overall Impression: Finally, a truly interesting lager has been found!
Rating: I give it a 8/10 as in excellent due it being interesting, refreshing and quite enjoyable. It retains everything that is enjoyable about a lager, while adding to the experience with the caramel and chocolate specialty malts. I have had others that simply take over the flavour, while this one melds nicely.
Food Pairing: I would match it with something char grilled, like a nice juicy burger

Don’t forget Bocks and Doppelbocks are lagers too! Think Hermanator Doppelbock.
True, although some are a bit too malty sweet for me, yet far more interesting than a traditional lager that’s for sure. I am one of the few people who really doesn’t like Herminator Eisbock for example (I really want to like it, I re-try it every year, I swear).
Haha. Hermanator is one of the only 6 packs I will purchase.
