BC Craft Beer Review – Steel & Oak Dark Lager

Steel & Oak Dark LagerSteel & Oak – Dark Lager: Is another great craft beer brewed in New Westminster, BC at a strength of 5% abv with 27 IBU’s. I went by the brewery the other day to pick up some more growlers and of course another sampler because they had three new beers I hadn’t tried yet.

Aroma and Appearance: It does pour with 1 inch of tan foam – sorry, sat for a few min before I snapped this shot – with a brown colour and lots of bubbles. The aroma is quite nutty, with grains, hints of smoke and just a touch of sweet malt.

Flavour: Again, like the aroma, it is nutty with smoked malts, some earth a touch of sweet grains that finishes crisp.

Overall Impression: Not overly smokey, this dark lager is similar to Hermann’s Dark Lager but has more earth and nuts in the flavour profile.

Rating: Easily an excellent rating of 8/10, this is a style I really like and this was executed quite nicely.

Food Pairing: I would say a Cesar salad served in a bacon bowl, I have paired this with dark lagers before and it is great!

Here’s my review of the overall brewery and their other beers on both trips, be sure to check them out yourself -> Steel & Oak Brewery
