Brewed in craft central Victoria, BC comes Hoyne Brewing’s Hoyner Pilsner (5.3% alc, poured at home from a 22oz bottle in a tall glass).
Aroma and Appearance: Pours a clear straw yellow with 2 inches of white foam in a tall skinny glass, full of fast rising bubbles with a grassy hay like aroma and the standard pilsner malty notes.
Flavour: Mild grassy and grainy flavour with a bit of soft bitter finish, not overly dry and quite refreshing. Overall, not much going on here though.
Overall Impression: It’s a pilsner, not too much more to say than that. Admittedly I am not a huge pilsner fan, they aren’t bad to me just not overly interesting either. If you want to drink a beer that pairs with just about anything or are looking to drink a lot than this would be a fine choice. I have yet to find an overly interesting one, I am open to recommendations here.
Rating: I would rate about 6/10 for a craft beer as in slightly above average, very well done for the style at a decent price (8/10 compared to other Pilsners), but compared to many other beers I can’t go higher in my rating.
Food Pairing: Pretty much anything really, you could try lemongrass chicken if you want to get fancy.
