Beer 3 from Mill Street’s Seasonal 6 pack sampler is Mill Street Brewery’s Weizenbock (a hefty 7.5% alc, poured at home from a bottle).
Aroma and Appearance: This beer pours a very dark almost red copper with just a touch of foam at the top (which stays the whole time) and carries aroma’s of toffee, raisin and dark fruit.
Flavour: Very, very malty sweet beer, I get plum, toffee and a whole lot of dark fruity malt flavour from this one. It is super sweet, almost too sweet for my liking. It finishes sweet as well, with a bit of bitter and some lingering sour in the side of you mouth and you can tell it is a wheat beer just by the texture.
Overall Impression: my palette has trouble with malty sweet beers, so this was a good one to keep developing my tastes for this style of beer. I found it a bit too sweet still, but otherwise decent and it was hard to tell that the alcohol content was 7.5%.
Rating: I would rate about 6/10 for a craft beer as in a bit above average, not something I would order every day but would make a great substitute for a dessert wine after dinner.
Food Pairing: This would pair well with candied bacon, a dessert like a lemon tart or simply as a dessert sipper after a hearty meal.
