Kona Brewing Big Wave Golden Ale: brewed by Kona Brewing Company in Hawaii (or potentially somewhere else in the USA), it comes in at a 4.4% alcohol level and was enjoyed at home from a 12 oz bottle poured into a glass at night.
Aroma and Appearance: This pours a golden honey colour, with lots of rising bubbles and a good inch of foam that diminishes over time. It has an aroma of grassy malt with a hint of tropical fruit.
Flavour: It goes down smooth and creamy, with a predominately grassy flavour with some lemon on the side.
Overall Impression: \Overall it is a very, very refreshing sessionable beer without too much going on beyond that. It kind of tasted like a good basic kolsch to be honest.
Rating: I would rate about 6/10, above average for a beer but nothing special going on here.
Food Pairing: Pair it with hot weather and your ass in the sand and you’ll be a happy person!
If you find Kona Brewing on tap in the Sate of Hawaii it is brewed by Kona. Outside of Hawaii and with all bottled products it is brewed at Widmer Brothers Brewing in Portland Oregon. They are part of the 4 Brewery “Craft Beer Alliance”.
Thanks, I look forward to one brewed in Hawaii one day!
Their standard lineup is good but nothing special. Their in house one offs and seasonals are awesome. Make it a point to go to the big Island. You will have 4 breweries to hit including Kona. Just make sure to rent a car for the big Island.
