Central City Brewing – Red Racer ISA: Is a Session IPA brewed in Surrey, BC at a sessionable strength of 4.0% abv with 40 IBU’s and was poured from a 12 oz can into a beer glass at home with lunch.
Aroma and Appearance: It pours a clear golden copper with lots of bubbles and an inch of foam. The aroma is pineapple, mango, tropical fruit, grapefruit, pine and herbs.
Flavour: The flavour is hop forward, with lots on pine and herbs, a bit if fruit and grapefruit, some light bready malt, a refreshing middle and a bit of a dry bitter finish.
Overall Impression: I am not a huge fan of session beers, but this one manages to give you a real burst of flavour without a huge alcohol hit so it makes a good weekend lunch companion.
Rating: I give it a very good rating, 7/10 as it has real flavour and hops that get along while revealing some nice malt.
Food Pairing: This ISA is awesome with spicy food, the spice cuts the fruit and brings out the herbs in the beer and the beer cuts the spice bringing out the flavours while taking away some of the hot. I had spicy fajitas with it and they worked together perfectly.
Please check out some of my other reviews of Central City Brewing Craft Beers, they make great stuff and it’s always worth picking up one of their bottles or cans.
