Craft Beer Review – Ninkasi Maiden the Shade IPA

Ninkasi Maiden the Shade IPANinkasi – Maiden the Shade IPA: Is a summer crowd IPA that is brewed in Oregon at a strength of 6.8% abv and 72 IBU’s (from 7 different hop varieties), ti was poured it into a 22 oz beer glass from a 22 oz bottle.

Aroma and Appearance: This beer pours a clear golden honey with two fingers of foam and lots of bubbles centered in the beer glass. The aroma is heavy on the tangerine citrus and grapefruit with some juicy orange, herbs and pine notes on the side.

Flavour: It starts with bready malt and a clean almost crisp mouth feel which is immediately interrupted by a citrus blast in the middle followed by a lingering woodsy pine and grapefruit bitterness.

Overall Impression: Ninkasi is one of those brewers that never seems to let you down and this one helped keep that reputation.

Rating: This was an 8/10, excellent stuff. Probably the most impressive use of 7 hops I have knowingly consumed where they work together and don’t fight for your palate.

Food Pairing: With the heavy citrus presence, I would go with some fish tacos here.

What is your favourite offering from Ninkasi?
