Central City Brewing – Red Racer IPA: Is an IPA brewed in Surrey, BC at a strength of 6.5% with 80 IBU’s. The can in the picture is a special charity release of this beer, which is the same beer as their regular IPA, just in a different can with a promise of a $2 donation per 6 pack.
Aroma and Appearance: It pours a reasonably clear copper with 2 fingers of foam and some decent bubble action. The aroma is strong, dominated by grapefruit with hints of tangerine, tropical fruit and citrus zest.
Flavour: The flavour is very malt forward, lots of bready malt with a fresh tasting middle and a dry grapefruit bitter finish that linger with pine and herbs.
Overall Impression: I think the malt profile almost drinks like a double IPA or a well hopped pale ale, while the hops as a very pleasant aroma and some nice bitterness that doesn’t over power.
Rating: I give it an excellent rating, 8/10 as it has a great price and wonderful flavour that is still balanced yet stands out in a crowded IPA world.
