BC Craft Beer Review – Phillips/Central City Vancouver Craft Beer Week PrevAle

VCBW PrevAlePhillips/Central City Vancouver Craft Beer Week PrevAle: Is a collaboration VCBW California Common Ale that is brewed at 7% abv and was enjoyed at home in a 22 oz beer glass.

Aroma and Appearance: It pours a super clear, bubbly amber with 3 generous fingers of foam. The aroma is grassy with light fruit hops, orange and some caramel.

Flavour: It starts off with some bready orange, a creamy and fresh mouth feel with a sweet butterscotch middle with light fruit and a floral bitter finish.

Overall Impression: Probably about as good as the style gets, nice easy drinker with some flavour. Not sure how the 70 IBU’s plays into it, not overly bitter or hoppy. I was a bit dissapointed when I head they were doing a California Common for VCBW, but at least it was well made.

Rating: I give it a very good rating of 7/10, it was great offering a bit too sweet for me personally, but still great for the style. I recommend you try it, and besides $1 a bottle goes to charity which is always a nice touch.

Food Pairing: I was wishing I had some coconut shrimp with this, I think that would make a great pairing.

I am excited for Vancouver Craft Beer Week, I am only attending one event purely as an effort to prolong my liver as well as be functional at work and at home for the week, but there are some great events going on so if you haven’t bought tickets you really can’t go wrong with any event at www.vancouvercraftbeerweek.com. Let me know what you thought of the 2014 Collaboration VCBW PrevAle in the comments section.
