BC Craft Beer Review – Powell Street Fresh Hop IPA

Powell Street Fresh Hop IPA

Powell Street Fresh Hop IPA: Last year Powell killed it with their fresh hop release called 95 Pounds of Wet Hop Goodness, so I was thrilled to see this year they upped their game by making a 7% abv unknown IBU fresh hop monster of an IPA. These are still on the shelves locally, I suggest you buy them all soon!

Aroma and Appearance: It pours a clear golden colour with three fingers of foam and a low level of carbonation. The aroma is fresh lemon, passion fruit, tangerine, toffee and peaches.

Flavour: It starts off with a satisfying toffee and bready malt flavour followed by fresh lemon citrus and herbal hop oils in the middle, with hints of caramel and biscuits on the side. As those flavours fade, a nice fresh whole leafy tea note arises with some nice grassy resinous pine that appear on the finish which is succeeded by a classic northwest grapefruit aftertaste.

Overall Impression: I was thrilled with last years offering and equally happy with this one, thankfully justifying my half a case purchase!

Rating: I give it an awesome rating of 9/10, this is the first local fresh hop I had this year that truly delivered a satisfying fresh hop blast, I am glad to report some of others did well too.

Food Pairing: Enjoy on it’s own, explore those magical hop cones and what they do to the beer only once a year.

Those hop cones shown on their Facebook Page are massive, just perfect for a big brew like this one! Don’t forget to Like their page if you want to stay in touch with their many new releases.
