Craft Beer Review – Delirium Nocturnum

Delirium Nocturnum

Delirium Nocturnum:  I pulled this beer out of the fridge on #PinkShirtDay since it features a pink elephant so prominently – as if I need a reason to drink this beer! It is brewed to a strength of 8.5% abv in a cool looking bottle with a best before date of 2018. This was a part of a Christmas themed 4 pack from Delerium, which also Tremens, Christmas and this amazing glass that I was more than happy to add to my collection, as well as its twin in the other pack I bought..

Aroma and Appearance: This is a very, very effervescent beer, even with a slow pour I got three fingers of foam and could see loads of bubbles in the dark mahogany coloured ale. Its aroma was fruity plums, dried apricot, toffee, bonbons, figs and boozy maraschino cherries.

Flavour: The carbonation really effects the taste, giving off spicy floral and clove notes upfront, with some banana, raisins and toffee in the middle of its incredibly light acidic body (especially for an 8.5% abv strength beer). Notes of bitter cocoa, plums shine through in the finish, with a bit more clove and herbal spice on the aftertaste.

Overall Impression: A great dark beer to give someone who says all dark beers are heavy, they’ll be shocked when they try this.

Rating: Excellent at 8/10, easy one to go back to and great to have with a meal.

Food Pairing: This is a good beer to go with a big dinner as it the effervescence will act as a palate cleanser, great for any holiday feast or buffet dinner

This is a video from their website, it’s pretty entertaining and gives a glimpse into their very cool looking brewery and shiny copper brewing equipment.
