Craft Beer Review – Deschutes Chasin’ Freshies Fresh Hop IPA (2014)

Deschutes Chasin Freshies

Deschutes Chasin’ Freshies: Brewed in Bend, OR at a strength of 7.4% with 65 IBUs featuring fresh Mosaic Hops (yeah that’s right, fresh Mosaic people!), I was super excited to see this beer make it’s way into my fridge and oh my it delivered!

Aroma and Appearance: It pours with a clear golden yellow, some minor carbonation and two fingers of white foam. The aroma is highly floral, with peaches, nectarines, gooseberries, orange peel, grainy malts and hint of lemon.

Flavour: The grainy malt kicks this off, quickly being replaced by fresh peaches and oranges, textured by nectarine skins and a touch hop oily hops while it moves into the gooseberries and finishes floral with a dry earthy resinous bitterness. Interestingly enough I also notices a lemon aftertaste as it heats up your throat.

Overall Impression: Delightful, if you have any one single fresh hop beer make it this one.

Rating: I give it an awesome rating of 9/10, at the high end of that scale with potential to get into the 10/10 range fresh out of the tank.

Food Pairing: Keep it clean and enjoy the fresh hops, no food pairing here.

Be careful where you drink this, it’s very possible to that it may give you a Foodgasm
