BC Craft Beer Review – Steamworks / Brassneck Firewalker Smokey Porter

Steamworks Firewalker Smoked Porter Collab with BrassneckSteamworks / Brassneck Firewalker Smokey Porter: Is a collaboration craft beer brewed in Vancouver, BC at a strength of 6.5% with 40 IBUs in a Steamworks labelled bottle that was originally bagged up with the name and breweries. I proceeded to pour this into a snifter, let it warm to cask temperature and enjoyed it at home.

Aroma and Appearance: It pours a dark brown with a bit of foam and no real visible bubbles. The aroma was smokey, meaty and almost bacon like (that could just be wishful thinking on my part)

Flavour: The smoke is very apparent up front, with a thick and meaty texture that balances out with some burnt marshmallow and well toasted bread flavour.

Overall Impression: Nice, not overly smokey but enough to give it some smokey oomph.

Rating: I give it a very good rating of 7/10, good stuff that won’t work for everyone but I liked it and enjoyed my bottle just not enough to buy another anytime soon since I like to try new beers.

Food Pairing: Double smoked bacon, smoked salmon to pair up the flavours or even a nice smoked gouda.

I have really enjoyed Steamworks 22 oz bottle program so far, I am always happy to pick one up and try it out knowing I likely won’t be dissapointed. It’s encouraging to see local brewers who have been here for a while doing this, so I’ll gladly support them.

  1. I just had one of these on Monday, I enjoyed it, even though the smokey side dominated. It is the best Brassneck I’ve had (ok half Brassneck) to date.
