Craft Beer Review – Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale

Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale

Stone – Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale: Brewed in California at strength of 7.2% this Pale Ale was enjoyed in a nonic 16 oz glass while vacationing in Portland. Stone is hilarious in their descriptions and “Your Not Worthy” marketing, it works well and is always a hoot to read.

Aroma and Appearance: It pours a dark amber colour with very minimal foam and some sporadic small bubbles in the glass that slowly rise to the top. The aroma is very doughy, yeasty with a piney hops and mango aroma with a hint of citrus.

Flavour: I get a lot of sticky malt, wood an earth, molasses, bread and a super dry finish with some lingering bitters.

Overall Impression: I like pales ales with a dry finish and developed malt character and this one hits all the right notes.

Rating: I give it a 8/10 as in excellent, I expected this to be good and thankfully it delivered. The oak adds a wood an earthy character that really helps bring out the malts.

Food Pairing: An earthy cheese would work well, like a truffle cheese from Trader Joe’s perhaps.

I like how Stone continues to get creative with their beer, this was another good one and worth a pick up.
