Dieu Du Ciel – Rigor Mortis Abt: This Belgian Quad Abbey Ale comes from Montreal (Go Habs Go!!!), Quebec and is brewed at a robust strength of 10.5% alcohol and has been aged for 1 year.
Aroma and Appearance: This a pours hazy brown with 1 finger of foam, no observable bubble action and has an aroma of earthy toffee, raisin and mild dark fruits.
Flavour: Fairly malt forward, I get a lot of nutty earthy tones, some caramel and hints of dark fruit mixed with candied sugar. As it warms the caramels and toffees from the malts appear more.
Overall Impression: I can be a bit hit and miss with quads depending on how malty sweet they are, but this one was great. I should have rested it out of the fridge a bit longer because as it warmed it got even better. It’s balanced, packs a hidden punch and you pick up new aromas and flavours throughout the experience.
Rating: I give it a 9/10 as in awesome, it’s in the top 10 Quads on ratebeer.com for a reason. It delivers a true beer geek experience!
Food Pairing: Candied Bacon
