8 Wired Super Conductor Double IPA: From the other side of the world in New Zealand, this double (aka Imperial) IPA is brewed at a strength of 8.8% alcohol, with an IBU of 88 and was enjoyed at home from a 500 mL bottle.
Aroma and Appearance: It pours a hazy copper with an inch of foam and some minor bubble action. The aroma is grapefruit, a touch of mango and some lemon citrus.
Flavour: Fairly malt forward like most DIPA’s with some nice tropical hop flavour and a solid grapefruit and rather bitter finish.
Overall Impression: Nice, not overly complex but tasty brew.
Rating: I give it a 7/10 as in very good, a touch too bitter for my palate to rush out and buy again (they do warn you on the label) but it balances out pretty good and was enjoyable. Although I would choose others over this one (specifically Central City Imperial IPA), I would gladly have one of these on tap or maybe one day fresh!
Food Pairing: Chips and spicy habanero salsa.
I am a pretty big fan of 8 Wired Brewery’s stuff as it seems to maintain a decent quality level and travels reasonably well across the pacific ocean. What’s your take on them, please leave a reply in the comments section below.
