Craft Beer Review – Dogfish Head Punkin Ale

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale: Brewed in Milton, Delaware at a strength of 7% abv, this awesomely labeled pumpkin beer has a pretty good reputation and was on my buy list this year for pumpkin beers. I have to admit, I really like how Dogfish Head has re-branded their beer labels, this is equally creepy and awesome at the same time.

Aroma and Appearance: It pours a clear orangy amber colour with lots of carbonation and a very head retention. The aroma is pumpkin, nutmeg and bready malt.

Flavour: Lots of pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon spice dominate while some squash and root vegetable flavours round this out.

Overall Impression: The pumpkin and spices dominate, but in a good genuine and fresh tasting way.

Rating: I give it a very good rating of 7/10, pretty decent for a basic pumpkin ale.

Food Pairing: The pumpkin could complement a nice creamy pasta dish or you can go with a reliable chocolate brownie with dessert.

This is name after the Punkin Chunkin Festival near Lewes, Delaware held traditionally on the weekend after Halloween you gotta watch this it’s crazy and awesome at the same time. Seriously, you have to watch this, just the variety of ‘punkin chunkin’ devices alone is quite astounding, I love the one at the 2 min mark and the catapult style ones!
