Craft Beer Review – Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA

Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA

Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA: Brewed in Chico, CA at a strength of 6.8% abv with 65 IBUs, I enjoyed this fresh hop IPA approximately three weeks after it’s September 30th bottling date featuring fresh Cascade, Centennial and Chinook hops. They have apparently been brewing this beer since the year I was born so they’ve had 33 years to perfect the recipe!

Aroma and Appearance: It pours with a clear copper colour and some medium carbonation with a generous 3 fingers of foam. The aroma is lemon, pine, papaya, floral and some fresh cereal grains.

Flavour: This is a very hop forward beer, with herbs and floral notes at first, a bit of toffee malt, more oily tropical fruit and returning to a very floral piney bitter finish that is quite satisfying.

Overall Impression: Very nice beer, quite bitter but enough malt to keep it honest.

Rating: I give it an excellent rating of 8/10, one I’ll look for annually.

Food Pairing: I prefer fresh hop beers without food, but say you went to Costco and bought all they had you could try fish and chips like they suggest.

Speaking of celebration, I couldn’t resist embedding this video by Kool & The Gang released around the same year as the first time they made this beer (perhaps the brewers were grooving to it while making this beer for the first time, one can only hope). Whatever happened to bands like this anyway? I love the dance routine and the horn section in songs and videos like this:
