Wolf Brewing – Rannoch Wee Heavy Scotch Ale: Is a scotch ale brewed in Nanaimo, BC by this small brewer at a strength of 6% abv and was enjoyed at home from a bottle that was poured into a 22 oz beer glass.
Aroma and Appearance: It pours a dark brown with two fingers of tan foam and some random bubble lines near the foam. The aroma was malty sweet, toffee and a touch of plum.
Flavour: The flavour is quite malt forward in a very malty sweet kind of way with some caramel and plum, a little touch of smoke and a bit of a dry finish. The body is both light yet filling.
Overall Impression: I am training my palate for malty sweet beers as traditionally I haven’t liked them very much and this was a good one to train with. Malty sweet, but not over powering.
Rating: I give it a very good rating of 7/10, the malt profile is nice and fairly on par for the style.
Food Pairing: Either stuffed portobello mushrooms or lamb chops would work well here.
I’ll have to keep my eye out for more of their beers, this was my first Wolf Brewing Beer and I am excited to try more.
