New Belgium – Rampant Imperial IPA: Is an Imperial IPA brewed in Colorado at a strength of 8.5% with 85 IBUs and was enjoyed at home, poured from a 22 oz bottle into a beer glass.
Aroma and Appearance: It pours a clear gold with 2 fingers of white foam and some slow rising bubbles were seen in the glass. The aroma was fairly herbal and floral with a touch of peach if you get close enough to it.
Flavour: Although there is some nice light biscuit malt, the herbal fruity and piney hops really shine in this one. It’s a very different Imperial IPA, with a lighter colour and mostly pale malt.
Overall Impression: I really liked this one, it shows an effort to be different and showcase the hops nicely without destroying your palate.
Rating: I give it an excellent rating of 8/10, I will buy more of this next time I see it for sure as the hops profile is a bit unique for a DIPA.
Food Pairing: Get some nectarines, put a bit of cinnamon and sugar on them, spray them and grill them directly on your BBQ and them spice them up to pair perfectly with this!
New Belgium is a brewery that often makes some more unique beers, I also love their white IPA and would appreciate any other suggestions on what to try from them.
