Craft Beer Review – Dogfish Head Aprihop

Dogfish Head AprihopDogfish Head – Aprihop: This is a seasonal Delaware brewed fruit India Pale Ale which comes in at a strength of 7% abv with 50 IBU’s and was poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic glass in a hotel. I have had a sample of this on tap and was interested in trying the bottle version.

Aroma and Appearance: Pours a clear copper with 1 inch of foam and a few bubbles. The aroma  consists primarily of mango, apricot tart and peaches.

Flavour: Immediately I got a lot of tart and apricot upfront with chewy bread and fruit juice in the middle and a very piney, fruity bitter finish and a tarty aftertaste.

Overall Impression: I like it when fruit beers captured the essence of a fruit without it overpowering the beer and this one works well, the apricot is clearly there but it doesn’t take over. This is basically a liquid version of whole wheat toast with apricot jam on it.

Rating: I give it a 7/10 as in very good, nice offering and worth a pick up maybe once a year.

Food Pairing: I think an apricot stilton cheese on grainy crackers would be perfect.

I sure do wish Dogfish Head was easy to find here, has anyone seen their stuff around town in Vancouver?
