Uinta Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin Barrel Aged Ale: Brewed in Salt Lake City, UT at a strength of 10.3% abv this monster 750mL bottle of beer was aged in oak barrels and is very highly rated online. I think the art on the label is pretty great, and t was nice to see this bottle corked with a cage release device at the top which would make it ideal for cellaring.
Aroma and Appearance: It pours with a small layer of foam, some little bubbles and a dark amber colour. The aroma is pumpkin innards, cinnamon, oak, malty sweet toffee and brown sugar.
Flavour: Wow, huge oak in this one up front with lots of booze, in the middle you get real pumpkin flavour, earth, and leather. Finally, it finishes with a malty sweet and wood resin finish that I have come to really enjoy.
Overall Impression: Pretty heavy oak flavour and a bit hot, however this has high potential in the cellar so worth buying and keeping for a year or two at least.
Rating: I liked this a lot as it was, 8.5/10 excellent and a half rating, one I will buy again and cellar.
Food Pairing: Try an applewood smoked rib eye steak, something with big flavour that won’t be over powered.
Referring to the smoked rib eye steaks, I don’t have a smoker (yet) but this looks like a beautiful way to prepare this cut of meat which would a perfect pairing for a big beer like this.
