Alameda – My Bloody Valentine Blood Orange Saison: Is an Oregon fruit saison brewed at a strength of 5.5% abv with 21 IBUs that was sealed with blood red wax. Funny enough I bought this after Valentines Day, but didn’t feel like saving ti for another 6 months.
Aroma and Appearance: Pours a clear amber with 2 fingers of foam with a typical to style bubbly carbonated look to it. The aroma is peppery spice, orange peel, grains and dry hay.
Flavour: Super light mouth feel from the carbonation with grainy malt, a hint of farm funk, touch of orange peel and a satisfying peppery finish. Oddly enough, the blood orange was heavy on the aftertaste.
Overall Impression: Decent variety on a saison, fun name and label.
Rating: I give it a very good rating of 7/10, perhaps a bottle for Valentines Day next year but not before.
Food Pairing: Crackers with marmalade like spread topped with peppered goat cheese, I love peppered goat cheese with saisons.
How do you open your wax seals? I used to take a knife to them and after a few close calls decided to search the interweb for a safer solution, go figure it seems using fire was a better option and I used a lighter to soften the wax and peel this one.
