Parallel 49 Lost Souls Chocolate Pumpkin Porter: brewed in Vancouver, BC at a strength of 6.5% abv, this recent gold medal winner in the BC Beer Awards Vegetable / Spice category is one of my favourites and it ages reasonably well for up to a year so I tend to buy a few bottles to let them develop. This one however, was pretty fresh.
Aroma and Appearance: It pours a dark brown colour with very little foam and no visible bubbles. The aroma is mild pumpkin, nutmeg, cocoa and dark coffee beans.
Flavour: A pretty nice chocolate and pumpkin flavour, nicely balanced, with some dark coffee, cocoa nibs, earth, squash and a slight sweet finish.
Overall Impression: Quite nice fresh, more chocolate than pumpkin which will mellow over time.
Rating: I would rate about 8/10 as in excellent, pretty nice job on this one.
Food Pairing: Pumpkin pie, it works perfect with pumpkin pie as seen below and here.
