Craft Beer Review – Coronado Brewing Idiot Imperial IPA

Coronado Idiot IPA

Coronado Brewing – Idiot Imperial IPA: Brewed in Coronado, CA at a strength of 8.5%.with 90 IBUs I was excited to try my very first beer by this brewery which I picked up at Haggen in Bellingham, WA.

Aroma and Appearance: This craft beer pours a clear coppery orange colour with 2 fingers of foam and lots of visible carbonation. The aroma was sweet tangerine, pineapple, grapefruit and caramel.

Flavour: It is intensely fruity, with pineapple and mango balanced with sticky caramel and bready malt. The middle of the beer was dominated by a more caramel and orange juice flavour that lead into a wood resin and grapefruit finish. Interestingly enough this beer also had really good head retention and the lacy foam added a very pleasant texture to it.

Overall Impression: Whoa [Keanu Reeves style], this was seriously good stuff!

Rating: I give it an Awesome rating of 9/10, hands down best Double IPA I have had so far. Taste was very fresh, both malts and hops were present and tasty, buy this if you see it!

Food Pairing: Juicy, tropical and some nice bitterness go with a grilled pineapple spiced chicken breast here.

Any other Coronado recommendations out there or is it just buy anything from them as it is all good?
